Cheryl’s keen interest lies within developing pupils’ efficacy in independent learning through metacognition.

Cheryl has been the serving Headteacher at Byfleet Primary School since 2020, having joined amidst the pandemic. She has worked in primary education for over 20 years and been involved with school leadership since 2010. Cheryl’s school leadership experience is firmly rooted in her formal qualifications, holding National Professional Qualifications: NPQH, NPQSL, Masters in Educational Leadership (M.A.) and most recently, NPQEYL. 

Cheryl has served in a range of settings, as classteacher, school leader and SLE (Specialist Leader in Education) having worked across schools in an advisory capacity to develop the teaching of English. She has a penchant for English, with a specific interest in teaching reading. Cheryl’s keen interest lies within developing pupils’ efficacy in independent learning through metacognition, which she is currently developing at Byfleet Primary School, to become an accredited ‘Thinking School’. 

One of EEEa’s values is ‘empowerment: unlocking futures’, which since joining BPS as Headteacher, Cheryl has encapsulated through her ongoing track-record for rapidly increasing pupil outcomes to be well-above the national and above Surrey average at the end of Key Stage 2, ensuring pupils leave BPS fully prepared for their next stages. 

In her personal life, Cheryl is a wife and mother-to-one and loves reading, is a keen squash player, enjoys sewing and quilting, allowing her creativity flow.
